New Delhi, 14 Aug: Four major delegations from Uttarakhand met LS Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi at his residence here today to press for long‑pending demands of the employees, contractual staff, nursing workers and unemployed youth. The meeting was led by Pradesh Congress President Ganesh Godiyal and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Yashpal Arya. Representatives of the Old Pension Restoration Joint Front (NPS/OPS), UPNL Employees Union, Nursing Employees and Uttarakhand Berozgar Sangh placed their concerns before Gandhi, highlighting issues of pension restoration, regularisation of contractual staff, service‑related grievances of nursing employees and employment opportunities for youth.
The Congress leaders claimed that Rahul Gandhi listened to the delegations with seriousness and assured that these matters would be studied in detail. He said that necessary directions would be issued at the party level to include important demands of employees and youth in the forthcoming Congress manifesto. The delegations emphasised that struggles over pension restoration, regularisation of UPNL employees, nursing staff demands and recruitment issues have been continuing for years, and Gandhi’s sensitive hearing of these concerns marks a significant step for Uttarakhand’s workforce and youth.
Among those present were Ram Kandwal, Suresh Singh, Nitin Dutta, Bittu Verma and Vishal from Uttarakhand Berozgar Sangh; Vinod Godiyal, Mahesh Bhatt, Vinay Prasad, Harish Kothari, Ajay Dabriyal, Vijay Ram Sharma, Ganesh Godiyal, Santosh Pant, Bharat Singh Bhandari, Nardev Singh, Bhupendra Negi, Ramesh Dobhal and Ajay Dev from the UPNL Employees Union; Naval Pundhir, Rajendra Kukreti, Sira Badani, Sapna Rathore and Parvesh Rawat from the Nursing Employees delegation; and BP Singh Rawat, Vikan Singh Rawat, Manoj Awasthi, Sita Ram Pokhriyal, Anita Vishwakarma and Makkhan Lal Shah from the Old Pension Restoration Joint Front.
