New Delhi, 13 Aug: On behalf of Uttarakhand BJP, Union Minister of State Ajay Tamta has categorically denied any connection of the BJP with the alleged purification ritual reported after the Congress rally in Haldwani. In a statement issued today, Tamta asserted that the opposition is attempting to exploit the incident for political gain. Reacting to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks in the Rajya Sabha and the statement of Uttarakhand leader of opposition Yashpal Arya, Tamta said the BJP does not support such activities and its ideology is rooted in five commitments, including social harmony and loyalty to the Constitution. He emphasised that the party believes in strengthening national unity and integrity by taking all the communities together, rather than dividing society on the basis of caste, creed or class.
Tamta clarified that the BJP had already made it clear that it had no role in the purification ritual held in Haldwani, and questioned why Congress was linking the incident to the party without any factual basis and raising it in Parliament. He described Congress’s attempt to connect the ritual with casteism as misleading and politically motivated, saying that turning a local incident into a caste dispute for electoral benefit is not in the interest of society. He accused the Congress of viewing every issue through the prism of caste and warned that creating mistrust and division in the name of political opposition goes against Uttarakhand’s tradition of social harmony and cultural values.
The Union Minister further alleged that Congress has consistently engaged in divisive politics, recalling that the party was responsible for the partition of the country, which had left millions homeless and claimed countless lives. He said that while the nation is observing Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, Congress is once again attempting to divide society and even Sanatan traditions. He pointed out that members of the Scheduled Castes had also participated in the purification ritual, underlining that Congress’s narrative was misleading and would not succeed.
Tamta observed that BJP national president JP Nadda had already expressed regret if Kharge’s sentiments were hurt and assured an inquiry into the matter, which reflects the party’s sensitive and responsible political approach.
