Dehradun, 22 Aug: BJP has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission alleging that the Congress workers, along with other antisocial elements, are threatening Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and the BJP’s BLA‑2 representatives to obstruct the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. A BJP delegation, led by State General Secretary and party in‑charge for the SIR process Tarun Bansal, today met Chief Electoral Officer Dr BVRC Purushottam and submitted a memorandum demanding strict legal action against those attempting to disrupt the constitutional exercise of voter list revision.

The party alleged that, while the SIR process is being carried out across the state with participation of workers from all political parties at the booth level, Congress workers are deliberately creating disturbances. The BJP leaders accused the Congress workers of intimidating the BLOs and the BJP’s BLA‑2 representatives whenever objections are raised regarding discrepancies such as duplicate entries across states, names of deceased persons or voters who have shifted residence. Bansal said that such intimidation amounts to direct interference in government work and undermines the constitutional process. He expressed concern that if Congress workers continue to create an atmosphere of disorder, ordinary citizens will face difficulty in presenting their objections.

The BJP urged the Commission to initiate stringent legal action against individuals obstructing the SIR process so that a flawless and transparent voter list can be prepared. The delegation included State Vice President Anil Goyal, Advocate Arvind Jain, Rajkumar Purohit, Himanshu Sangthani and Karun Dutta.
