Dehradun, 28 Aug: Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Minister Madan Kaushik has stated that, in view of the fact that Uttarakhand is a disaster‑prone state, the government is working with full seriousness to reduce potential risks. He added that drawing lessons from the recent disaster in Nepal, monitoring arrangements for glacier lakes, rivers and other sensitive areas in the state are being further strengthened. It may also be recalled that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has also issued directions to all the departments concerned to ensure proper monitoring of the sensitive and vulnerable glaciers and install the advance early warning systems.
Kaushik said that scientific surveys of sensitive glacier lakes, regular monitoring and the installation of advanced early warning systems are being given special emphasis. Wherever required, additional equipment and technical resources will be provided so that any potential threat can be communicated in time to the administration and the public.
Kaushik further asserted that the government’s priority is the safety of human life. Preparations before disasters, timely warnings, capacity building at the local level and better coordination among departments will be ensured to minimise possible loss of life. During the monsoon, all the departments and the officials concerned have been directed to remain alert and ensure swift action, he claimed.
