DEHRADUN, 12 Sep: The third National Lok Adalat of 2026 was successfully organised here on Saturday under the directions of the National Legal Services Authority, New Delhi, and the Uttarakhand State Legal Services Authority, Nainital. Convened by the District Legal Services Authority, Dehradun, under the chairmanship of District Judge Harish Kumar Goyal, the Lok Adalat was held from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday across the district headquarters and subordinate courts in Rishikesh, Vikasnagar, Doiwala, Mussoorie and Chakrata.
A total of 11,565 cases were disposed of in a single day, with settlements amounting to Rs 30.33 crore. In Dehradun district alone, 5,541 cases were resolved, including compoundable criminal matters, cheque bounce disputes, recovery suits, motor accident claims, family disputes, public utility service cases, offences under the Motor Vehicles Act and other civil matters. Settlements in these cases accounted for Rs 26.50 crore.
At the Vikasnagar court, 1,316 cases were settled with agreements worth Rs 1.71 crore, while Rishikesh courts disposed of 557 cases involving Rs 2.59 crore. Doiwala courts resolved 179 cases with settlements of Rs 1.16 crore, Mussoorie courts disposed of 55 cases with Rs 8.21 lakh and Chakrata courts settled 73 cases with Rs 10.91 lakh. In addition, 6,903 pre litigation cases were successfully resolved, leading to settlements worth Rs 3.84 crore.
On this occasion, District Judge Harish Kumar Goyal observed that the Lok Adalats play a vital role in strengthening the dignity of the justice system by promoting dialogue, compromise and social harmony. He emphasised that they provide simple, accessible and speedy justice, with decisions being final and binding, and court fees refunded to litigants.
District Legal Services Authority secretary Seema Dungarakoti credited the remarkable disposal to the continuous guidance of the District Judge and the coordinated efforts of judicial officers, advocates and the DLSA team. She said the collective commitment ensured amicable and swift resolution of a large number of disputes.
