Dehradun, 30 Oct: The changing weather can affect children’s health. Due to fluctuations in temperature, children may experience problems like cold, cough, fever, viral infections, and sore throat. In such a situation, parents need to pay special attention to children’s health, diet, and hygiene.

Dr Ashok Kumar of Doon Medical College said today that it is very important to take care of children’s daily routine and diet in the changing weather. Dress children according to the weather and keep them protected from the cold. Also, give them nutritious food, fresh fruits, adequate water, and a balanced diet, so that their immunity remains strong.

He said that 5-6 children suffering from Hand Foot Mouth Disease are coming daily. This is happening due to a virus.

This is a contagious disease among children, which is commonly seen more in children under 10 years of age. Parents should watch for in children if:

Red rashes or blisters are appearing on the palms of hands and soles of feet, or painful sores are occurring inside the mouth, tongue and gums,

And there is mild fever and sore throat or pain, then immediately show the children to a doctor and do not send them to school.

Children should be inculcated with the habit of washing hands regularly and should be kept away from close contact with people suffering from cough and cold. It is also important to maintain cleanliness in and around the house. Children should get adequate sleep and rest.

According to Dr Ashok Kumar, if a child shows symptoms like high fever, difficulty in breathing, persistent vomiting, excessive lethargy or signs of dehydration, then medical advice should be taken immediately. Symptoms of illness in small children should not be ignored and medicines should not be given without doctor’s advice.

He appealed to parents to remain vigilant about children’s health in the changing weather; a little caution can prove helpful in protecting children from seasonal diseases.
