Garhwal Post Bureau
Dehradun, 31 Oct: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today unveiled the new flag, emblem, formation signs, insignia, crest and new ceremonial uniform of the Uttarakhand Police at a programme organised at the auditorium of the Chief Minister’s residence. On the occasion, he also inaugurated Vigilance Awareness Week-2026, based on the theme ‘Integrity for Prosperity’, and administered the National Unity Day pledge to those present.
The CM congratulated the officers and personnel of the Uttarakhand Police on their new identity, saying that the changes represent much more than a redesign of uniforms and symbols. They reflect an effort to strengthen the force’s glorious traditions of valour, discipline and dedication to duty. He said the new insignia carries a sense of pride as well as responsibility, adding that their real significance would be reflected in sensitivity towards citizens, efficiency in functioning and impartiality in police action.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of smart policing, Dhami said the state government is committed to equipping the Uttarakhand Police with modern technology and improving its training, efficiency and capabilities. The new police motto, ‘Karm Satyam Shauryam’, conveys the ideals of duty, integrity and courage, which every police officer and personnel must incorporate into their conduct and working style. He emphasised that respect for the uniform is earned through conduct and public confidence through service.
Highlighting the significance of unveiling the new insignia on National Unity Day, he recalled the contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister, in strengthening national unity, integrity and internal security.
Launching Vigilance Awareness Week, Dhami said development must be accompanied by honesty, transparency and accountability in governance. He added that the government is following a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, and the Vigilance Department has an important role in ensuring a corruption-free administrative system.
The CM also urged the citizens to report corruption-related complaints on helpline number 1064. He further directed the Chief Secretary to ensure regular reviews of the helpline, on the lines of the Chief Minister’s Helpline, and stressed that every complaint should be taken seriously and investigated in accordance with the rules. He called upon the government officials and the employees to listen sensitively to people visiting their offices and ensure timely disposal of their grievances and work.
The Chief Minister asserted that the objective is to establish a corruption-free system in which every citizen receives respect and the public services are delivered without negligence and trust between the people and the administration continues to grow.
Dhami said it is a matter of great pride that Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah would confer the prestigious President’s Police Colour on the Uttarakhand Police on 6 November. Police personnel would participate in the ceremonial parade wearing the newly designed uniforms. He expressed confidence that the force would establish new standards of public service, discipline, efficiency and commitment.
The new Uttarakhand Police emblem incorporates the Ashoka Pillar, ‘Satyamev Jayate’, a golden laurel wreath, the Himalayas and a river, representing national pride, truth, justice, excellence and the State’s geographical identity. The earlier three-colour horizontal flag has been replaced with a dark blue flag featuring the new emblem in the centre, with red and golden borders.
The formation signs, insignia and crests used on police uniforms have also been redesigned in keeping with the new emblem. The ceremonial uniform retains traditional khaki attire while incorporating a multi-coloured ceremonial sash, decorations and distinctive parade accessories.
The Uttarakhand Police flag was last unveiled on 4 April 2008. The new insignia have been designed in view of changing challenges and the expanding responsibilities of the force. According to the Police Headquarters, the Chief Minister had approved the new designs on 21 October 2026.
