BJP welcomes Congress decision to postpone Yatra

By Our Staff Reporter

Dehradun, 2 Aug: BJP has welcomed the Congress decision to postpone the Kedarnath padyatra and said that, at this time, everyone needs to come together to help the disaster affected people. Party State Media In charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said that the BJP has been insisting from the very beginning of the Yatra that Congress should play a constructive role and avoid such political programmes, particularly at a time of crisis. He added that it would have been better if their local leaders had taken this decision in public interest instead of giving credit to Rahul Gandhi.

Chauhan said that due to heavy monsoon rains in the mountainous region, rivers and streams are in spate and incidents of landslides are occurring regularly over the past few days. There have been landslides and loss of life in several villages. The government and rescue agencies are engaged day and night in providing relief to the victims.

Chauhan claimed that the BJP workers are also continuously engaged in disaster relief work. To prevent any untoward incident, the identified areas are under close watch of the administration as well as the party. People trapped in Kedarnath area have been airlifted and taken to safe places.

Chauhan said that during any disaster, the campaign to be undertaken by all political parties including the Opposition should not be political in nature but constructive. Apart from the ruling party, the Opposition also has a big responsibility towards the people of the state. At this time, there is a need to share the pain of the people. The political parties and the leaders ought to provide help to the victims by establishing coordination with the rescue teams.

Chauhan said that it is sad that whether it is the Corona crisis or the padyatra to Kedarnath or any other occasion, the Congress  has been generally seen agitating on the streets instead of being among the public and offering help. He said that CM Pushkar Singh Dhami is monitoring the task of disaster management and is meeting the disaster affected at ground zero and boosting their morale. The rescue teams are also reaching the victims at the earliest possible, and during such times, everyone needs to come forward in public interest by sacrificing personal interest.
