Dehradun, 16 Aug: Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour at ‘The Asian School, here, to mark the 78th year of freedom from British rule.
The special occasion started with the hoisting of the Tricolour by Principal Ruchi Pradhan Datta in the school premises. It was followed by the National Anthem. To commemorate the occasion, a patriotic speech in Hindi was delivered by Akshat Verma of class 11, followed by an invigorating speech in English on Independence Day by Bappy Kundu of class 11.
The student’s choir sang a melodious patriotic song, ‘Lehrata Fehrata Tiranga’, giving a message of pride in one’s country and upholding the spirit of harmony and brotherhood. Vidhi Rana of class 11 recited a self-composed poem on ‘love for motherland’. It won everyone’s heart.
Principal Datta, while addressing the gathering, expressed gratitude towards the brave armed forces, who guard the borders and protect and appealed to all to take pride in being an Indian and fulfilling one’s duty and responsibility towards the nation and the world.
Coaster making, painting and flower making competitions were held in the junior wing in which the students participated with great enthusiasm. A senior school Inter-House Rangoli competition was won by Shivaji and Ranjit house. In the exciting Staff vs Students Football match, the staff won with a lead of 6 goals.
Present were Principal Ruchi Pradhan Datta, Head, Senior School, Mukesh Nangia, Head Mistress Prachi Mehrotra, Deputy Head, Junior School, Surbhi Narula, Dean of Activities Shweta Matta, teachers and students.
