Sports Science Campaign held at Maharana Sports College in Doon

By Our Staff Reporter

Dehradun, 26 Oct: The Sports Science Testing Campaign was launched at Maharana Pratap Sports College here with the aim to unleash the potential of young sportspersons and identify areas for their development. The initiative provides an opportunity for sportspersons to hone their skills through scientific training and testing, reflecting the government’s commitment to sports development. Maharana Pratap Sports College conducted tests for sportspersons of various categories, aimed at assessing their abilities and providing technical guidance for improvement. These tests conduct a holistic assessment of students from physical, mental, and emotional perspectives. The aim is to evaluate not only the physical ability of the players but also their mental ability and state.

The campaign was organised at the International Cricket Stadium here, which will soon host the 38th National Games. The tests began with ‘Acceleration’, which assessed the speed and muscle strength of the players, followed by a 100-meter sprint test. A key aspect of the tests on the second day was the mobility assessment, which evaluated the range of motion of the players’ joints and muscles. This test identified any restrictions that could hinder performance or increase the risk of injury. Flexibility and mobility are extremely important for players as they help improve effective movement patterns and overall athletic performance.

Through this campaign, the Uttarakhand government has established a strong platform for young players to accurately assess their abilities and pursue excellence in sports. This programme benefits local players and provides a new direction in the state and national sports scenario.

On the third day of this campaign, data from the trials conducted over two days was presented, with CEO of National Games and ADGP and Principal Sports Secretary Amit Sinha (IPS) and the coaches participating in the campaign. Sinha shared his experiences and discussed several important parameters of sports. He also highlighted the prevention and control of injuries, essential for sports. In this context, he explained the importance of correct techniques, which are helpful in increasing muscle flexibility and endurance.
