Dehradun, 24 Nov: The Experiment in International Living, Dehradun Centre, celebrated UNO Day on 20 November in a grand way.
The Community Chairman, Rajive Rekhi, welcomed the members and guests. He also welcomed the special guests for the evening, Lt Gen Gambhir Singh Negi (Retd) and his wife, Rajini Negi. In his address, he stressed upon the need, significance and achievements of the UNO since the end of the Second World War. He wished that the nations of the world would rise above personal interests and get under the banner of UNO to resolve the prevalent issues the world is now facing.
Lt General Negi shared his first hand experience as part of the UN Peacekeeping Force during his illustrious career of over thirty- nine years in the Indian Army. Being well-versed with the working of the UNO, he explained how nations participated in various UN programmes. He reminded that India has been the biggest contributor to Peace Keeping forces over the years. His talk was very informative and deeply appreciated by the audience.
This was followed by a Ghazal Nite with a renowned Ghazal singer keeping the members spell bound with his melodious voice. The enjoyment was writ large on the faces of the members as they hummed along and applauded every ghazal sung.
