Dehradun, 6 Dec: According to the Meteorological Department, a Western disturbance is likely to become active on 8 and 9 December, leading to a noticeable shift in weather patterns across the state. Light rain has been predicted in several areas, while snowfall is expected in the higher altitudes of the hill districts.
Rohit Thapliyal, a meteorologist at the State Weather Centre in Dehradun, indicated that light to moderate rain and snowfall are likely in certain regions during these two days. Snowfall is anticipated in areas with altitudes exceeding 2,500 metres in the hill districts. Additionally, there’s a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in the Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, and Udham Singh Nagar districts, particularly on the afternoon of 8 December.
The Meteorological Department has forecast a return to clear weather conditions from 10 December onwards. However, the impact of the Western disturbance is expected to lead to a decrease in maximum temperatures, especially in the hill districts. This temperature drop may result in a cold wave, potentially affecting children, the elderly, and livestock. The department advises taking necessary precautions to protect against the cold.
