Dehradun, 18 Dec: As Uttarakhand prepares to host the 38th National Games, the Dehradun Police have intensified security measures by conducting a verification campaign across the district. The National Games are expected to witness participation of athletes from across the country competing in various events in the state.

It has been claimed that Doon Police received information about the presence of Bangladeshi and Rohingya citizens in some areas, prompting a verification campaign in nine different police station areas, from urban to rural.

During the campaign, approximately 75 suspicious individuals were identified with addresses from Murshidabad, 24 Parganas, and Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, as well as Barpeta, Bongaigaon, and Goalpara districts in Assam. These individuals were detained and interrogated even as their original addresses are being verified. The police are also preparing data on all the suspects.

The 38th National Games are set to commence in Uttarakhand on 28 January, and the Uttarakhand Police is actively engaged in ensuring the security of the event. The verification campaign was launched on the instructions of SSP Ajai Singh, who stated that about 1,004 outsiders were verified during the campaign. Information was obtained about 177 families with Aadhar cards from various districts in Assam and West Bengal. Singh added that 75 suspicious individuals were brought to the police station for questioning. The police are currently preparing their data and conducting further verification actions. This campaign would continue in the lead-up to the National Games, the SSP added.
