Dehradun, 12 Mar: While discussing various components of leadership in a workshop on ‘Leadership and Indian Epic’ organised by Shivalik College of Engineering, Dehradun Management Association (DMA) President Prof HC Purohit said that it is necessary for the leader to create an environment in the institution where every employee feels empowered and enabled and can be involved physically and mentally in the work. Prof Purohit, while discussing various dimensions of leadership, said that today is the era of ‘servant leadership’ and this is possible only when the leader is endowed with spiritual quotient. He said that, in decision making, public policy sometimes becomes more important than public opinion, so it is not necessary that one’s decision is according to public opinion, but it is necessary to follow public policy. He said Indian epics such Ramayana and Mahabharat are rich treasures for leadership development.

On this occasion, former President of ISTD Dehradun Chapter, Prof Avinash Chandra Joshi said that good leadership is not only important for the institution but also for the development of society, state and country. Prof Joshi shared many examples of ideal leadership by referring to various episodes of Ramayana and Mahabharata and also threw light on various programmes run by ISTD.

Addressing the workshop, ISTD Dehradun Chapter President Anoop Kumar said that there are many episodes and examples of efficient leadership available in Indian scriptures. It is necessary to study them and set the moral leadership accordingly in the operation of business concerns and corporate houses as well as government administration, because only through leadership can change occur in society or institutions. Hence, it is necessary that the vision of a leader should be broad and comprehensive. He discussed in detail the leadership of many industrial houses including Tata Group of Industries.

Welcoming the guests, College Director Professor Prahlad Singh said that the college is trying to organise workshops and programmes for the all-round development of the students and is committed to providing every kind of facility to the students for effective teaching and e-learning.
