Dehradun, 17 Mar: Political tensions have escalated in Uttarakhand following Finance Minister Prem Chand Aggarwal’s resignation submitted to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami yesterday. The resignation has naturally emboldened the Opposition leaders, and they are now seeking to blame the entire BJP Government as well as the party for the fiasco that led to Aggarwal’s resignation. The opposition has seized the opportunity to criticise the Dhami government, with senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat leading the charge.

In a social media post, Harish Rawat declared that this resignation is not merely about Prem Chand Aggarwal stepping down, it symbolises the defeat of the BJP’s arrogance. In a video posted on his social media, Rawat claimed that the arrogance of power has been forced to bow before public opinion. Those who fuelled this arrogance, whether by giving it a regional or communal shape, must apologise.

Rawat also criticised BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt, accusing him of arrogance and divisive rhetoric. He condemned Bhatt’s “low-grade” remark, where he allegedly referred to political opponents as “sadakchhaap,” asserting that Uttarakhand will not forgive such behaviour. Rawat also alleged that Bhatt attempted his best to use his influence to shield Aggarwal, but public sentiment ultimately prevailed.

Rawat claimed that the anger of Uttarakhand is not directed at one individual but at the arrogance embedded in every vein of power. This anger will only subside when apologies are made, and a commitment to change is demonstrated.
