Dehradun, 2 Apr: Sardar Bhagwan Singh University (SBS University) successfully organised a Fit India Campaign in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India and BTL Industries, a global leader in physiotherapy technology. This initiative reaffirms the university’s commitment to promoting health and wellness within its academic community.

The Fit India Movement, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2019, encourages a healthier lifestyle by integrating physical activities and sports into daily routines. As part of this campaign, SBS University welcomed Amit Kumar Sinha, Special Principal Secretary for Sports and Youth Welfare in the Government of Uttarakhand, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasised the importance of physical activity and a healthy lifestyle in shaping the nation’s future. “Educational institutions play a critical role in building a healthier India. By fostering fitness among students, faculty, and staff, we set an example for the entire country,” he remarked.

In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr J Kumar, highlighted that India’s young population is its greatest strength. With proper guidance and opportunities, the youth can lead the nation to unprecedented growth and development. “At SBSU, we firmly believe that education is incomplete without physical and mental well-being. Through this campaign, we aim to inspire everyone to make fitness an integral part of their lives,” he added.

The event also underscored SBS University’s collaboration with BTL Industries, emphasising a shared commitment to advancing physiotherapy and fitness technologies. Dr Mervyn Barnabas, BTL’s Clinical Head, and Dr Tarique Aziz, a Clinical Representative, conducted a live demonstration showcasing state-of-the-art electrotherapeutic advancements and their applications in fitness and wellness.

The inaugural session featured esteemed dignitaries from the Physiotherapy Department, including Prof Manish Arora (Dean of Student Welfare), Prof Reena Kumari (Head of Department), and Prof R Arunmozhi (Deputy COE), along with other faculty members. Prof Manish Arora and Prof Reena Kumari delivered the welcome address, while Dr Priya Kamboj, PT, anchored the proceedings.

Over 150 undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapy students actively participated in two consecutive sessions, gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge physiotherapy modalities. Demonstrations included Class 4 Laser Therapy, Radial Frequency Shockwave Therapy, and RF Devices, providing attendees with insights into the latest advancements in electrotherapeutics.
