The Grenadiers Regiment pays homage to Lt Gen Yogi Tomar (Retd)

Dehradun, 14 Apr: The Grenadiers Regiment mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished leaders, Lt General Yogi Tomar, PVSM (Retd), who passed away on the evening of 12 April at the Military Hospital, Dehradun.

Gen Tomar’s association with The Grenadiers began at the age of 20 when he was commissioned into the 4th Battalion. Throughout his illustrious career, he held several esteemed Command and Staff positions, including Commanding 14 Grenadiers, leading the 57 Mountain Division, heading the 1 Corps,

serving as Military Advisor to the High Commissioner in Malaysia, Commandant of the College of Combat, Commandant of the Indian Military Academy, Adjutant General of the Indian Army.

From 1982 to 1991, Gen Tomar served as the Colonel of The Grenadiers, a tenure marked by significant reforms and milestones that continue to inspire the Regiment.

His contributions include composing the Regimental Song; designing elements of the uniform; establishing the War Wounded Cell Hospital (WWCH); donstructing the Hari Mandir.

Lt Gen Sanjay Mitra, AVSM, Colonel of The Grenadiers, and Brig Lalit Sharma, SC, SM, Commandant of The Grenadiers Regimental Centre, have extended their heartfelt condolences to Aruna Tomar, Brig Vikram Tomar, Vaishali Tomar, and the entire Tomar family. The Regiment stands united with the family in this moment of grief.

Gen Tomar’s final journey will commence from his residence at House No. 45, Vasant Vihar Phase 1, Dehradun, on 15 April.
