Dehradun, 22 Apr: A one-day workshop on “Empowering Students Through NEP-2020: Innovative Strategies for Skill development” was jointly organised by the Centre of Innovation, Incubation, Entrepreneurship and Industrial Relations (CIIEIR) and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Doon University. On this occasion, BR Shankaranand, National Organising Secretary, Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal, stated that the implementation of the National Education Policy is like old wine in new bottle and dedicated to the human making process. He said that teachers play a pivotal role in shaping noble individuals through education. A teacher burns like a lamp to illuminate the path for students, thus paving the way to excellence.
Highlighting the importance of the spiritualisation of education, he said that when a person walks the path of spirituality, their conduct aligns with dharma (righteousness). A dharmic mindset fosters morality, which not only encourages material growth but also lays the foundation for inner evolution. Morality is essential in every aspect of life as it empowers individuals to live fearlessly. He also said that the curriculum should have flexible rigidity and assessment system should be designed to ensure the holistic development of the students. He added that education institutions should create an environment where competition transforms to cooperation. The National Education Policy prioritises the development of moral values and essential skills among students, aiding in the process of cultivating noble individuals. Shankaranand urged teachers to aspire to become “Rishis” (sages). For this, it is essential to awaken reverence, intellect, wisdom, talent, and insights in students. If teaching and writing are based on original thought and analysis, students will find them engaging and enjoyable, and teachers too will attain excellence (Rishi). He also that students should participate in the learning process freely and without any pressure of attendance, assignment, which is the true meaning of spiritual education.
Prof Surekha Dangwal, Vice-Chancellor, Doon University, discussed in detail the skill development and value-added courses offered under the National Education Policy. She said that the university is continuously working towards developing students’ personalities and character based on the Indian knowledge system. She also mentioned that the recognition of Indian Natyashastra by the United Nations as a tribute to India’s vast knowledge system and reiterated that Doon University is committed to nurturing this tradition across various fields of teaching and learning. The Vice-Chancellor said that the university aims to instil moral values in students across all walks of life and to shape them into responsible and noble citizens. Accordingly, the curriculum is regularly developed and enriched. Dr Sudhanshu Joshi, Director, CIEIR, provided a brief overview of the skill development courses. Dr Narendra Rawal, Controller of Examinations, explained the technical aspects of the entry and exit processes in the courses of Doon University. The event was conducted by Dr Mala Shikha and vote of thanks was proposed by Prof HC Purohit. The programme was attended by Registrar Durgesh Dimri, All India Youth Wing Leader Amit Rawat, Western UP Regional Coordinator Anuj Parasar, Daya Shankar Mishra, Prof Sandeep Vijay, Prof Rajesh Kumar, Prof Harsh Dobhal, Prof Reena Singh, Prof Gagan Mata, Dr Suneet Naithani, Dr Vijay Sridhar, Dr Achlesh, Dr Chetna Pokhriyal, Dr Swati Bisht, Dr Arun Kumar, Dr Rajesh Bhatt, Dr Himani, Dr Charu, Dr Vaishali, Dr Prachi Pathak, Dr Preeti Mishra, Dr Sarita, Priyanka, Dr Ankit Nagar, and many other faculty members, staff, and students. During the event, the chief guest was presented with organic food products under the startup “Grab Gardenn,” initiated by Doon University Alumni Dr Preeti Rana and Dr Priya Saini. These products featured local and organic ingredients from Uttarakhand.
