Dehradun, 24 Apr: With the onset of summer and the anticipated surge in electricity demand, the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Ltd. (UPCL) has reiterated its promise of providing high-quality and affordable electricity to consumers across the state. In light of rising temperatures and the forthcoming Char Dham Yatra, MD, UPCL, Anil Kumar today issued strict instructions to the senior officers to ensure seamless power supply during the peak season.
The MD asserted that to maintain continuity in electricity distribution, all regional officers have been instructed to conduct rigorous inspections of power houses under their jurisdiction and closely monitor the load on transformers and transmission lines. With the possibility of an unprecedented increase in demand, officials have been directed to adopt proactive measures to prevent disruptions and ensure smooth operations.
In view of the soaring electricity consumption, particularly during the summer and the Char Dham Yatra, the officers have been asked to work on a war footing to guarantee uninterrupted power supply. Daily monitoring of sub-stations, transformers, and insulators has also been mandated to prevent overloading and technical failures. According to Kumar, adequate numbers of trolley transformers would be kept ready, and high-load transformers would get their capacities enhanced to meet rising demands. He further directed that the voltage levels across power lines must remain stable, with officials ensuring prompt repairs of loose electrical connections and operational efficiency of tap changers and capacitor banks. Any faults reported must be immediately attended to, minimising inconvenience to consumers.
Chief Engineer (Distribution) has been asked to prepare short-term and long-term plans to guarantee 100 percent power availability in the future. Regional officers have been instructed to remain stationed in their respective areas, and no leave will be sanctioned except in extreme circumstances to prevent manpower shortages. Furthermore, strict adherence to electrical safety measures has been ordered to avoid accidents.
Special provisions have been made for the Char Dham Yatra to facilitate an uninterrupted 24-hour power supply in the Dhams. The officers have been also directed to ensure that the voltage levels are maintained to prevent disruptions, ensuring a hassle-free experience for pilgrims and travel operators.
The Managing Director added that he is personally overseeing power arrangements and has issued strict orders that officials must not vacate their posts except under unavoidable circumstances. Electricity is being procured at competitive market rates to meet growing demands.
He also urged the consumers to contribute to energy conservation by using electrical appliances judiciously, setting air conditioners at 24-25 degrees, switching off lights and fans when leaving rooms, minimising unnecessary usage of geysers, computers, and televisions, and encouraging children to adopt frugal practices.
