Dehradun, 24 Apr: The state government has finally woken up to the increasing number of cases of dengue in the state and has now intensified its prevention efforts, with all departments instructed to work in unison to curb the spread of the disease.
As per directives from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Health Minister Dhan Singh Rawat, Health Secretary, Medical Health and Education, Dr R Rajesh Kumar has issued a strong advisory, urging inter-departmental coordination to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.
The advisory points out that the dengue mosquitoes thrive in clean stagnant water, making timely removal of such water crucial. Municipal corporations, rural development authorities, and education departments have been tasked with ensuring cleanliness and raising awareness in their respective jurisdictions. It has been claimed by Dr Kumar that the health officials across districts are actively identifying and destroying breeding sites, while urban bodies are clearing construction zones and other locations where water accumulates.
The schools have also been roped into the initiative, with students being encouraged to educate their families on preventive measures. Drainage systems are being improved to prevent rainwater stagnation, while waste management strategies have been enhanced to reduce mosquito breeding risks.
Public engagement is being strengthened through television, radio, and social media campaigns, with panchayats and local representatives urged to take an active role in identifying breeding sites. Special health camps are being organised at hospitals, ensuring early detection and treatment of dengue cases. Health workers are conducting door-to-door inspections to systematically eliminate breeding grounds.
