Cong holds Save Constitution Rally in Doon against BJP Govt
By Arun Pratap Singh
Dehradun, 30 Apr: Congress today held a show of strength against the BJP government through the Save Constitution Rally held at the Rangers’ Ground here today. Party workers from across the state gathered in large numbers, joined by senior leaders, including state in-charge Kumari Selja and former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, who energised the crowd with calls for change of power in Uttarakhand, ahead of the 2027 elections. Pilot was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation, with Pilot delivering the key address. He addressed the gathering and emphasised the importance of the Constitution. Pilot also accused the BJP government at the Centre of undermining the principles of the Constitution. Pilot claimed that the Congress is committed to protecting the Constitution and raising the voice of the people against the misuse of central agencies to suppress the opposition.
Pilot also criticised the BJP government for creating an atmosphere of insecurity and weakening constitutional institutions, claiming that such actions were unprecedented during the past 70 years. He highlighted Congress’s role in nurturing the Constitution and vowed to continue fighting for the rights of the people.
Targeting the BJP government in Uttarakhand, Pilot accused it of exploiting the public and failing to address issues such as harassment of women and Dalits, dominance of mining mafia, and lack of accountability. He expressed confidence that the public is now ready for change and that Congress is prepared to lead the charge.
Karan Mahara said that BJP MLAs are already worried about the kind of image BJP is building in the 2027 assembly elections. Today, even the common person of the state has started talking about mining. There is no river left in the state in which Poklands and JCBs are not visible. Now even at tea shops, people are talking about illegal mining going on unhindered in the state.
PCC Chief Karan Mahara said that the government has given all the rights to its favourite persons, from mining permits to everything. He claimed the situation in the state is bad. The BJP government of the state has snatched away even the rights of those who repair their homes by taking a few sacks of sand from the rivers.
Mahara also reminded that former BJP Chief Minister Trivendra Rawat has raised the issue of illegal mining in Parliament twice, but nothing happened in this direction, rather the leaders from the Centre have come here and patted the Chief Minister’s back. Now BJP MLA Munna Singh Chauhan has caught a tractor-trolley of illegal mining in his area. Congress has also staged a sit-in protest against illegal mining in Vikasnagar a year ago, but the government is not bothered.
Former CM Harish Rawat also cornered the government on the issue of illegal mining. He particularly claimed that BJP State President Mahendra Bhatt was also helpless in this regard.
The rally was also addressed by several senior leaders, including Leader of the Opposition Yashpal Arya, former State President Pritam Singh, and other prominent figures such as Ganesh Godiyal and Harak Singh Rawat. State in-charge Kumari Selja and co-in-charge Sardar Pargat Singh also addressed the rally, rallying workers and emphasising the party’s commitment to constitutional values.

Dehradun, 30 Apr: Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Chief Karan Mahara who along with senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot led the Save Constitution Rally in Dehradun today failed to protect his phones from getting stolen from the stage itself.
The Uttarakhand Congress organised its ‘Samvidhan Bachao Rally (Save Constitution Rally)’ at Rangers Ground here today, drawing a large gathering of party workers and leaders. The event was marked by the presence of Rajasthan’s former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, who attended as the chief guest, alongside senior Congress leaders from across Uttarakhand.
As the rally progressed, several leaders addressed the enthusiastic crowd from the stage. However, the situation turned chaotic when a number of individuals managed to climb onto the stage amid the dense gathering.
Amid the disorder, both mobile phones belonging to PCC Chief Karan Mahara were reportedly stolen. According to his advisor, Amarjeet Singh, miscreants took advantage of the crowd to make away with the devices during the closing segment of the rally.
Singh expressed hope that whoever has taken the phones would come forward and return them upon realising the mistake. He added that in case the mobile phones are not returned, the party will lodge a formal police complaint. He also urged the authorities to place the phones under surveillance if necessary. It however remains to be seen if the phones can be put on surveillance unless a formal report is filed regarding the stolen phones.
