Dehradun, 9 May: In a bid to provide clean and safe drinking water to every citizen under the Janseva Sankalp initiative, the Dehradun district administration has claimed to be actively addressing water-related complaints and working towards uninterrupted supply. On the instructions of District Magistrate Savin Bansal, a control room has been set up at the district level to ensure swift grievance resolution. A dedicated committee monitors complaints regularly, and competent officers from Jal Sansthan and Drinking Water Corporation have been deployed in the control room to ensure prompt action on concerns such as leakage, contamination, and supply disruptions.

Since the activation of this initiative, 36 complaints have been received through the toll-free number, newspapers, and other mediums, of which 34 complaints have been successfully resolved by the district administration. To streamline the operations further, officers from seven departments related to drinking water supply have been stationed in the control room since 20 May, working daily to tackle supply issues. Disaster in-charge ADM and SDM Kumkum Joshi are also conducting regular briefings and meetings with engineers from relevant departments to track progress and expedite resolutions.

The officials shared that, in cases where conventional pipeline supply is disrupted, the administration is ensuring pure drinking water reaches affected areas through alternative means, including tankers and mules. This proactive approach has provided relief to residents facing acute water shortages.

Recently, several localised drinking water issues were swiftly resolved. On 6 May, a newspaper report highlighted a disruption in supply to 112 houses in Cantt area due to a motor failure at the Mohanpur tubewell. The administration immediately repaired the faulty motor, restoring supply the same evening. In Krishnapuram, the Project Director of UUSDA confirmed that repairs to the Daudwala drinking water line have been completed, but low pressure continues to impact supply, prompting UUSDA to provide water through tankers.

Similarly, on 5 May, reports of four days of water shortage in Pant Road area surfaced due to pipeline damage during gas pipeline installation by Gail Gas Ltd. The Executive Engineer shared that that repair work was in progress, with tankers ensuring supply in the meantime. Another issue arose on GMS Road, where UPCL ADB’s electric cable installation led to damage in the drinking water line. The Jal Sansthan Executive Engineer confirmed that the pipeline had been fixed, restoring normal supply.

In MDDA Colony, a faulty valve spindle at the Turner Road tube well near ISBT was repaired, resolving low pressure problems and stabilising the drinking water supply.

To ensure long-term sustainability, the DM has directed officials to conduct regular monitoring in water-stressed areas. Tubewells are being prioritised with uninterrupted power supply, while toll-free complaint numbers (0135-2726066 and 1077) have been widely publicised to facilitate easy grievance reporting. In addition, the district administration has also claimed to have allocated budgetary support for uninterrupted water supply and deploying contingency measures in water-scarce areas. The DM reiterated that the administration remains committed to improving the drinking water system and resolving complaints efficiently to ensure relief for all affected residents.
