HARIDWAR, 17 May: A Bangladeshi woman, Rubina alias Ruby Devi, has been arrested in Haridwar for allegedly posing as a Hindu and obtaining fake identity documents. The police have initiated an investigation into the network involved in creating fraudulent documents that enabled her to reside in India under a false identity.
Acting on Intelligence inputs, the authorities detained Rubina and her husband, Satish Prasad Dubey, in Haridwar district. Preliminary investigations reveal that Rubina is a citizen of Bangladesh who had been living in Haridwar for some time, masquerading as a Hindu woman. It has been alleged that her husband assisted her in securing crucial identity documents, including an Aadhaar card and a PAN card, by deliberately concealing her actual nationality.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pramod Dobhal stated that the police made a significant breakthrough during a routine verification campaign conducted by Intelligence officers and the Kotwali police. He further added that efforts are underway to identify other individuals involved in the creation of fake documents. The police are determined to take stringent legal action against all those who facilitated Rubina in acquiring an Indian identity fraudulently.
Apart from investigating the individuals responsible for document forgery, the police are also examining how and when Rubina entered India. Authorities are working to track her movements and connections within the country to ascertain whether she is affiliated with any suspicious or criminal networks. Officials are also probing whether she was part of any organised effort to secure fraudulent documents for foreign nationals.
It may be recalled that this is not the first incident of Bangladeshi citizens being apprehended in Haridwar district. Over the past few years, several cases have come to light where individuals from Bangladesh were found residing illegally in Uttarakhand, often with forged identity documents. These incidents have raised serious concerns regarding security and the potential misuse of Indian identity credentials by foreign nationals.
In a similar case earlier this month, the Uttarakhand police had arrested a group of individuals suspected of aiding illegal immigrants in obtaining fraudulent Indian identity documents. The authorities have tightened their vigilance in response to these growing concerns, ensuring thorough verification of residents in sensitive areas.
The authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on document forgery and illegal immigration. SSP Dobhal asserted that that a strict action would be taken against not only the perpetrators but also those found guilty of aiding them in manipulating official records. The ongoing investigation is expected to reveal more details about the network and its possible reach beyond Uttarakhand.
