Dehradun, 27 May: Colone Ajay Kothiyal (Retd), Adviser to the Chief Minister, Uttarakhand, for Ex-Servicemen’s Welfare, launched the book, ‘Swarm Troopers’: How Small Drones Will Conquer The World’ by David Hambling, at Natraj Publishers, here, on Monday.

Speaking to a select audience after launching the book, Col Kothiyal said Drones and Artificial Intelligence will change the face of War and added that India’s Armed Forces are ready to meet the challenge of fast changing methods of warfare.

Books, he said, keep one abreast with authentic information. The Prime Minister in his address to the nation attributed the success of Operation Sindoor to the effective use of drones by the defence forces.

This book highlights the advances in technology that have set the stage for a major shift in how wars are fought intelligence gathered. Drones -cheap and plentiful – are poised to support and, in some cases, supplant current weapons, at a fraction of the cost. The book explains how small drones with limited battery life stay in the air long enough to achieve anything on a strategic scale. And how anything so small can make an impact. But with new technology that allows drones to draw energy from the environment and swarms of thousands of drones acting together, their impact is anything but small. The high cost of military aircraft, the rise of biometric technology and advances in the science of swarming behaviour – all these are leading to a future where the drone rules the skies.

This book shows what the future looks like and explores whether there is readiness for both the opportunities and threats it may bring.

The author is an acclaimed military technology expert based in London. After the event, Upendra Arora, owner of Natraj Publishers, invited the audience to browse the selection of new books on Drone and Futuristic Warfare on display at the bookshop.
