Nainital, 30 May: A review meeting of the Uttarakhand State Cooperative Bank Ltd, Haldwani, was held today under the chairmanship of Dilip Jawalkar, Secretary, Cooperatives, Government of Uttarakhand, and Administrator of the State Cooperative Bank. The meeting included an inspection of the Cooperative Bank headquarters.
During the meeting, Managing Director Pradeep Mehrotra presented a detailed progress report on deposits, credit disbursement, deployment of funds, IT services, and NPAs. The Secretary instructed that targets related to deposits, credit disbursement, and NPA recovery must be achieved in full.
The Secretary emphasised timely inspection of branches and district cooperative banks as per the roster, along with the submission and implementation of inspection notes. He also directed that all customers be enrolled under Government of India schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, and Atal Pension Yojana.
The Secretary mandated monthly review meetings by branch managers and target-based performance evaluations. He further instructed the organisation of fortnight-long deposit campaigns at branch level, with a special focus on low-cost deposits. Financial literacy campaigns under FLC must include promotion of bank loan products to boost credit disbursement. Special efforts were also directed towards improving the bank’s CD (Credit-Deposit) ratio.
Jawalkar instructed the bank to prepare a future action plan for aggressive work on loan disbursement, deposit mobilisation, and NPA recovery in order to enhance profitability. The MD informed that branch-level targets have already been set and actions are being taken accordingly.
On the occasion of International Year of Cooperatives 2025, the Secretary also launched the “Tree for Mother” initiative, urging widespread tree plantation and mandatory protection of planted trees.
Key Directions at the Meeting of the Cooperative Bank were:
- Low Credit Disbursement: The Secretary expressed dissatisfaction over inadequate loan distribution. He emphasised setting targets for staff to improve bank performance.
- Regional Lending: Special focus on increasing loans in employment-generating and tourism sectors to curb migration and promote local entrepreneurship.
- Loan Recovery Monitoring: Instructions were given to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and expedite loan recovery.
- Technology Upgradation: Directives to upgrade banking software and improve service delivery.
- Recruitment & Key Offices: Orders to advertise vacant posts to attract qualified personnel and strengthen major offices of the cooperative banks.
Key Directives for MPACS (Multipurpose Primary Agricultural Credit Societies):
- Computerisation: Expedite full computerisation and update all records.
- Jan Aushadhi Kendras: Strengthen operations and ensure wide publicity of generic medicine centres.
- International Year of Cooperatives: Accelerate celebration activities, ensure broader participation of the public and stakeholders.
- Dividend Distribution: Ensure cooperative members receive their entitled dividends in a timely manner.
- Tree Plantation Campaign: Promote tree plantation across the state with proper protection and encourage public participation in the initiative.
