Shimla, 14 Jul: In the wake of the devastating floods and cloudbursts that struck Himachal Pradesh with Thunag and Janjheli towns being badly affected, a group of Naval veterans from the state have launched a coordinated relief distribution mission to support the worst-affected people.

The team of veterans conducted an on-ground assessment in the flood-impacted areas where government aid was difficult to reach. During their visit, they met with the Tehsildar of Thunag, who directed them to several remote and critically affected villages that have been cut off due to washed-away roads and the complete breakdown of connectivity.

Guided by local authorities, the team focused its efforts on reaching the isolated families. They engaged directly with residents to assess immediate needs and identified families most in need of assistance.

The relief team carried out distribution of aid across the Thunag and Janjheli areas. With funds amounting to Rs 2,70,000, contributed by members of the Himachal Naval Veterans, the team provided 40 Kitchen Sets, 80 Ration Kits, Rs 5,000 Cash Assistance to 15 families, Rs10,000 Cash Assistance to 3 families who have completely lost their homes.

This initiative was led by Petty Officer Lalit Bhardwaj (Retd), a former Marine Commando and resident of Sundernagar, Himachal Pradesh. He was joined by a dedicated group of Naval veterans and local volunteers who stood shoulder to shoulder in this mission of compassion.

This effort stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of service among veterans — a reminder that they continue to serve the nation, not only in uniform but also in times of civil crisis.

The relief team included Naval veterans Pawan, Vinay, Yash Thakur, and Sunil, alongside dedicated volunteers such as Amit Kumar, Harish Kumar, Pinku, Kanaru Ram, Sonu, and others whose tireless contributions made this mission possible.

During the visit, the team had the opportunity to meet former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. They apprised him of the relief efforts being undertaken by them to support those impacted by the disaster.

The team expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed.
