Pithoragarh, 15 Jul: A tragic road accident occurred in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district, where a Max jeep carrying passengers plunged into a river, resulting in the death of 8 people and leaving 6 others seriously injured.
As per reports, the incident took place on Tuesday around 4 PM near Bhandari village in the Muwani area, along the Thal–Pithoragarh motor road. The vehicle, which was traveling from Muwani to Bokta, lost control near Suni bridge and fell approximately 100 feet into a river. The impact was so intense that the jeep was completely wrecked.
There were 14 people in the jeep at the time of the accident. Eight people died on the spot, and six others sustained serious injuries. Among the deceased were two real sisters. All the victims were residents of Bokta village.
Governor of Uttarakhand, Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd), expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident. He prayed for peace to the departed souls and offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
Rescue operations were carried out immediately, and the injured were taken to the hospital for treatment. Police and local administration are investigating the cause of the accident.
