Dehradun, 16 Jul: Incessant rainfall across Uttarakhand has sent rivers, streams, and rivulets surging beyond their banks, leading to multiple emergency situations across the region. In Vikasnagar’s Katapathar area, the rain-fed Naro Nullah turned dangerous when a speeding car attempting to cross was swept away by the forceful current. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle was quickly washed away downstream and was eventually lodged further along the nullah’s course. The villagers, however, displaying remarkable courage, rushed to the scene and rescued the driver, narrowly preventing a fatal outcome.
In another incident in the Selaqui region near Kanchi Wala, three youths were stranded amidst the rising waters of another swollen rain-fed nullah. The Dehradun unit of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) received a distress alert late in the night and promptly dispatched a team from Dakpathar led by Suresh Tomar. Upon arrival, the rescuers found the youths trapped midstream and immediately launched a swift rescue operation. Using a raft, the SDRF team successfully extricated all three and transferred them safely to the district police.
The officials claim that people often ignore warnings from the authorities urging the public to maintain caution during the monsoon period. The police officials also reminded that that even dried-up nullahs and streams can suddenly swell into torrents, posing life-threatening dangers.
