Dehradun, 26 Aug: Addressing a seminar on “Navigating NEP-2020: Challenges, Opportunities, and Future” organised today under the joint auspices of Doon University and the All India National Educational Federation, Vice Chancellor, Doon University, Prof Surekha Dangwal said that the provisions described in the National Education Policy 2020 have been implemented in Doon University. The objective of this education policy is to make students inquisitive, so that their analytical ability can be developed and they can lead society as responsible citizens.
The Vice Chancellor added that, while the structural framework of educational institutions is necessary, what is most important is the dedication of teachers, because the quality of education will improve only through their commitment and sacrifice. She noted that the availability of human resources devoted to education remains a big challenge. Prof Dangwal added that the focus on skill development in the NEP will help youth become self-reliant entrepreneurs. Knowledge of value-added subjects will instil discipline and a sense of social responsibility, while also nurturing respect for conservation and sustainable use of environmental and natural resources. At the same time, the encounter with Indian knowledge traditions will free students from the mindset of slavery and make them proud of their culture and heritage.
Prof Dangwal further stated that apart from the lecture hall, this policy offers multiple online platforms for students to learn, enabling them to compete at the international level.
Addressing the gathering, Prof HC Purohit, Dean, School of Management, said that research, the National Research Foundation, and encouragement of innovation will help promote scholarly work. This education policy encompasses all sections of society, as it includes provisions to ensure access to education for differently-abled students, girls, and students from tribal areas. Teaching in the mother tongue will instil self-confidence in youth, enabling them to achieve success in life.
Welcoming the guests, Prof RP Mamgain, Dean, School of Social Sciences, said that the National Education Policy will prove to be instrumental in the holistic development of students.
The programme was conducted by Dr Prachi Pathak, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Sarita Singh.
