Statewide Health Fortnight to be organised: Dr Dhan Singh Rawat

Dehradun, 28 Aug: From 17 September (Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday) onwards to 2 October, a Health Fortnight will be organised across Uttarakhand. As part of this initiative, health camps will be set up in medical colleges, district hospitals, sub-district hospitals, community health centres, and sub-centres, where people will receive free health check-ups, consultations, and medicines. In addition, large-scale blood donation camps will also be organised at various locations. Officials have been instructed to complete all necessary preparations.

State Health and Medical Education Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat reviewed the preparations for the Health Fortnight in a meeting held today at the Assembly Secretariat. He informed that a total of 4,604 health camps will be organised across different districts, including Almora – 522 camps; Bageshwar – 109; Chamoli – 206; Champawat – 120; Dehradun – 425; Haridwar – 367; Nainital – 367; Pithoragarh – 679; Pauri – 573; Rudraprayag – 239; Tehri – 533; Udham Singh Nagar – 256; Uttarkashi – 208.

Nodal officers have been appointed to ensure smooth conduct of these camps. Dr Rawat added that at Health & Wellness Centres, CHCs, sub-district and district hospitals, people will get free treatment, diagnostic tests, medicines, and counselling, especially for pregnant women and TB patients. Citizens will also be made aware of various central and state health schemes.

Dr Rawat directed officials to prepare a concrete action plan for the successful execution of the campaign and to ensure wide publicity so that maximum people can benefit. He also emphasised the participation of local MPs, mayors, MLAs, ministers of state, municipal representatives, and local leaders in the campaign.

Along with health camps, mega blood donation drives will be organised across the state, encouraging citizens to voluntarily donate blood. Awareness programmes will also be held in schools and colleges to motivate students to participate in this noble cause.

The meeting was attended by Suresh Bhatt, Vice-Chairman, State Rural Health & Monitoring Council; Dr R Rajesh Kumar, Secretary Health; Manuj Goyal, Mission Director NHM; Anuradha Pal; Director General Health Dr Sunita Tamta; Director Dr Shikha Jangpangi; Additional Director, Medical Education, Dr RS Bisht; Dr Tuhin Kumar, and other senior departmental officials.
