Kashipur, 25 Sep: Just three days after the rioting during a procession in Kashipur, another attempt was allegedly made to disrupt the peace in Udham Singh Nagar district. In this regard, the Police have blamed some anti-social elements. The Police have also claimed that due to the vigilance of the police, the situation was brought under control peacefully. The incident was linked to a rumour about the ‘death of a minor in police custody’.

It may be recalled that, on Sunday night, a procession was organised by members of a particular community without permission in the Alli Khan neighbourhood of Kashipur, gathering hundreds of people. The Police arrived on the scene and appealed to the crowd not to proceed with the unauthorised procession. During this, some miscreants assaulted the police personnel, a video of which also surfaced and has gone viral. Subsequently, the police arrested some suspects, including the leader of the procession, and registered a case against 400 to 500 unknown persons.

Last night, however, another attempt was made to disturb the peace in Kashipur by spreading a rumour. Police allege that a rumour spread rapidly in the Alli Khan neighbourhood that a Muslim minor had died in Kashipur due to the police beating in custody. Hearing this, the residents of the neighbourhood, all of whom were Muslims, started moving towards the police post. However, the police administration, in a display of wisdom, called some prominent representatives of the Muslim community to the Bansfodan police post and arranged for them to meet the minor. In front of the representatives, the minor was handed over to the family.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Kashipur, Abhay Singh, appealed to the local people not to pay heed to any rumours. He stated that there are some anti-social elements who are constantly trying to disturb peace by spreading rumours among the general public. SP Abhay Singh also urged people to identify such miscreants and inform the police. The identity of the informant will be kept confidential. Strict action will be taken against those who spread rumours on social media and other platforms.

Meanwhile, Congress Metropolitan President Musharraf Hussain said that attempts are being made to spoil the atmosphere by spreading rumours. Muslim representative Hasin Khan said that the claim of the ‘minor’s death due to police beating’ was false. He added that some people unnecessarily want to disturb the peace in Kashipur by spreading such rumours, and that he and other representatives fully support the Police in taking action against such individuals.
