Dehradun, 22 Dec: Dehradun-based litterateur Tapas Chakraborty has been conferred the prestigious Sahitya Sparsh Award 2025 for his latest travelogue, ‘Hampi: Utkarsh se Apkarsh tak’. This marks the third major literary honour bestowed upon him within a single month. Earlier, he was also honoured with the ‘Kadambari Sahitya Samman’ and the ‘Uttarakhand Salute Award’, underscoring his growing stature in contemporary Indian travel literature.
The Sahitya Sparsh Awards, presented by Literatureslight Publishing and sponsored by The Literature Times, celebrate outstanding literary contributions from writers across Asia. The awards aim to nurture the tradition of storytelling while offering a vibrant platform to diverse and compelling literary voices across genres.
Currently serving as Assistant Commissioner in the Central Goods and Services Tax Commissionerate, Dehradun, Chakraborty has authored five travelogues to date. His literary journey began with ‘Ruk Jana Nahi’, which received the ‘Rajbhasha Gaurav Puraskar’ from the Government of India in 2016. Subsequently, in 2018–19, his work ‘Mandiron ka Nagar: Vishnupur’ was honoured with the “Rahul Sankrityayan Tourism Award” by the Ministry of Tourism. In recognition of his sustained literary contributions, ONGC conferred upon him the “Uttarakhand Sahitya Samman” in 2024.
In ‘Hampi: Utkarsh se Upkarsh tak’, Tapas Chakraborty vividly chronicles the magnificent rise and eventual decline of Hampi, the illustrious capital of the Vijayanagara Empire. The travelogue brings to life Hampi’s grand monuments, the legends woven around them, and the author’s personal travel experiences, all narrated with remarkable vibrancy and depth. Seamlessly blending history, storytelling, and tourism, the book stands out as a powerful and immersive literary work that invites readers to rediscover one of India’s greatest historical landscapes.
