First-ever high-altitude “Niti Valley Extreme Ultra Run”, scheduled to be held in Uttarakhand towards May end

DEHRADUN, 17 Jan: The Peak of Endurance to Unfold in Niti Valley as preparations are progressing at a rapid pace for the firstever highaltitude “Niti Valley Extreme Ultra Run”, that will be held in Uttarakhand around May end. In this regard, an important review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Tourism Secretary Dhiraaj Garbyal, on Saturday.
The Tourism Secretary conducted a point-wise review of all aspects related to the event. While assessing the accommodation facilities available in Niti Valley, he directed officials to ensure adequate and safe lodging arrangements for all participating athletes and teams. The capacity of homestays was also reviewed, and detailed discussions were held on possible accommodation options available in army areas.
During the meeting, the route reconnaissance team gave a brief presentation on the proposed marathon course, highlighting the level of difficulty, altitude profile, emergency support mechanisms, and geographical features of the route.
Garbyal instructed officials to prepare promotional and informational booklets based on the history, folklore, local festivals and traditions, geography, and communities of Niti Valley, so that participants and tourists can gain insight into the region’s rich cultural heritage and unique identity.
Suggestions were invited from local public representatives, and a shared vision for the upcoming event was developed with community participation at its core. It was ensured that the local community would be an integral part of this prestigious event and that the arrangements would be conducted in accordance with environmental conservation and biodiversity standards.
The meeting concluded with a firm resolve that this event would prove to be a historic step towards establishing Niti Valley on the global map, particularly in the field of adventure tourism and athletics.
The meeting was attended by Bansi Lal Rana, Additional CEO, UTDB officials, along with public representatives, village heads, and local stakeholders from various villages of Niti Valley.
