LPG supply normal in U’khand, claims Govt

Garhwal Post Bureau

Dehradun, 7 Apr:  Press Information Bureau (PIB) of the Government of India today organised a press briefing in Dehradun aimed at keeping the media informed regarding the impact and the potential implications of the ongoing war in West Asia on India, particularly regarding supply of fuel and LPG. In this regard, Additional Commissioner (Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs of the state government) PS Pangti addressed a press conference at PIB Dehradun.

He shared that advance distribution of three months’ ration is being carried out to Antyodaya and priority households under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana in April.

Pangti also claimed that the supply of LPG and other petroleum products across Uttarakhand remains stable and uninterrupted. He stated that domestic LPG supply is being ensured regularly across the state and there is no shortage of petrol and diesel. He added that uninterrupted supply of gas is also being maintained to hospitals and educational institutions.

Pangti informed that, with regard to commercial LPG cylinders, a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)has been issued by the state government for 66 per cent distribution of LPG to non-domestic consumers , under which 6,310 cylinders will be distributed daily to hotels and resorts, restaurants and dhabas, guest houses, paying guest facilities, homestays, marriage functions and industries across the state. The Additional Director also claimed that the government has made special preparations in view of the upcoming Char Dham Yatra and the marriage season. He reminded that keeping in mind the tourism and pilgrimage season, the Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand has already sent a request to the Government of India seeking restoration of 100 per cent allocation of commercial LPG to the state from April till November, along with an additional demand of 5 per cent quota.

Pangti also asserted that sufficient stock of 5 kg LPG cylinders is available for migrant labourers and the students from other states living in Uttarakhand and that all the gas agencies in the state have been directed to ensure timely delivery of domestic LPG cylinders. He added that migrant workers and students can obtain 5 kg ‘Chhotu’ cylinders under Free Trade LPG on the basis of identity proof from any gas agency in the state.

Pangti reiterated that under the directions of the Government of India, the ration card holders under Antyodaya and priority categories are being provided three months’ ration for April, May and June in advance through fair price shops in April itself. Around 14 lakh ration card holder families in the state are being allocated three months’ foodgrains at one time under the scheme.

On the issue of panic booking of LPG cylinders, Pangti said that the highest number of bookings in the past 25 days was recorded on March 15, when nearly 90,000 bookings were made. However, the situation has since normalised, and yesterday only around 45,000 bookings were recorded. He claimed that this indicates that LPG booking across the state has returned to normal levels.

He further stated that efforts are also being intensified to expand PNG connections in Uttarakhand. In line with the directions of the Government of India, work on city gas distribution and promotion of alternative fuels is being undertaken at a rapid pace. Five city gas distribution companies are currently operating in the state, including GAIL Gas in Dehradun, IOC-Adani Gas Pvt Ltd in Udham Singh Nagar, HNGPL in Haridwar and HPCL in Nainital. There is no disruption or restriction in the supply of CNG, domestic PNG or commercial and industrial PNG in the state. These companies are working towards expanding domestic PNG connections, ensuring maximum coverage in minimum time, prioritising surveys and institutional connections, monitoring daily progress and determining priorities based on public interest. At present, around 37,000 households in the state have active PNG connections, he added.

Pangti further claimed that adequate arrangements for alternative fuel have also been ensured by the Forest Department at all timber depots across the state. Pangti said that strict monitoring and enforcement action is being undertaken to curb hoarding and black marketing of LPG. So far, 6,205 inspections and 373 raids have been conducted, resulting in registration of 19 FIRs, seven arrests and issuance of 16 notices.

He added that domestic LPG cylinder distribution remains normal, with more than 18 lakh cylinders delivered to households since March 1, 2026, while over 6,700 five-kilogram cylinders have been sold across the state.
