All set for 8th International Taekwondo Championship in Doon

Dehradun, 15 Jan: All preparations for the 8th International Taekwondo Championship being organised by the Uttarakhand Sports Taekwondo Association under the auspices of National Taekwondo Committee have been successfully completed. The prestigious international event will be held on 17 and 18 January at the MP Hall, Parade Ground, Dehradun.

Teams and officials from different regions are arriving in Dehradun. The delegation from Nepal has already arrived, while other participating teams are reaching the venue. The championship has generated great enthusiasm among sportspersons and taekwondo lovers.

Seong Kuk Jeong (South Korea)

As part of the pre-championship schedule, the Drawing of Lots, Technical Officials’ Meeting, and Coaches’ Meeting will be conducted on 16 January evening. The championship will be formally inaugurated on 17 January in the morning with a grand opening ceremony.

Approximately 450 players and 45 technical officials are participating in this international championship, making it a major sporting event of the region. Around 1000 spectators will be present on the occasion to cheer the Indian Team.

Renowned international taekwondo personalities Grand Master Seong Kuk Jeong (South Korea) and Grand Master Jimmy R Jagtiani have already arrived to grace the championship with their presence, further enhancing the stature of the event. President of Advisory Council of Nepal Taekwondo Association, Prakash Shumshere Rana has also sent his best wishes for the championship and is expected to arrive soon. Organising Secretary Master Javed Khan stated that all necessary arrangements related to competition, accommodation, transportation, and safety have been completed.

The competition will be organised for all weight categories, Male & Female – Senior, Junior, Cadet, Sub Juniors. Poomsae and Speed Kicking Competion will also be events of attraction. All the matches of Kyorugi will be organised as per latest rules of World Taekwondo on sensor equipment. He also stated that all the players will be awarded medals and certificates and team trophy for winning and runners-up teams. Uttarakhand is fully prepared to host a successful and memorable international championship.

All the medallists of Indian team will get the chance to participate in upcoming G-1 Ranking International Taekwondo Championship to be held at Dashrath Stadium, Kathmandu, Nepal from 13 to 18 February 2026.
