Dehradun, 13 Dec: Ann Mary School hosted a highly informative Fire Safety Awareness session for students of classes VI to IX. The session was led by experts Maneesh Pant, Arvind Rawat and Sunil Rawat from the Uttarakhand Fire and Safety Department. It focused on essential fire safety knowledge and emergency response procedures, ensuring that the students are well-equipped to handle fire-related emergencies.

Pant emphasised the importance of integrating fire safety education into school curricula. Drawing examples from countries like Japan, the US, and Singapore, he highlighted how fire safety is actively taught in schools, with teachers and senior students playing a vital role in ensuring safety during emergencies. The session also covered key concepts like the “Fire Triangle”, explaining the three critical elements required for a fire to occur: Source of Ignition, Combustible Substance, and Presence of Oxygen.

Students were given hands-on experience with fire extinguishers, practicing with both carbon dioxide and water extinguishers. They were also taught essential evacuation procedures, learning how to remain calm and safe during a fire emergency.

The session concluded with an exciting fire-fighting demonstration by the students, showcasing their newly acquired skills and confidence in handling fire situations.

Director Ankita Joshi, Principal Dr Preeti Saxena, and the school staff attended the event. Thanks was extended to the experts for their valuable insights and practical demonstrations.
