Dehradun, 5 Dec: Governor, Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) participated in the 9th International Gita Mahotsav held on Thursday in Kurukshetra, Haryana, organised by Kurukshetra University and Kurukshetra Development Board. On this occasion, the Governor of Kerala, Arif Mohammad Khan, and the Governor of Haryana, Bandaru Dattatreya, were also present.
While addressing the gathering, Governor Singh stated that, being present on the holy land of the Gita brought a feeling of divinity, grandeur, and completeness. He congratulated the Haryana Government for organising the 18-day-long International Gita Mahotsav and wished it success. He mentioned that, through this event, the teachings of the Gita would reach people worldwide. He emphasised that the Gita is an extraordinary scripture of religion, morality, and life philosophy.

The Governor also quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that the Gita is a heritage of the entire world. He noted that the Prime Minister has demonstrated that by adopting the teachings of the Gita as a guide, one can achieve the goal of holistic development with the spirit of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”.
The Governor remarked that the land of Kurukshetra reminds that whenever there is doubt or confusion in life, the Gita is the knowledge that can show the right path. He stated that the Gita is not merely a scripture but the essence of life itself. The Gita teaches all of humanity about duty, dharma, and the right course of action in life.
He also referred to the famous teaching of the Gita, “Karmanye Vadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana” (You have a right to perform your prescribed duties, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions). This message, he said, urges one to focus on duties without concern for the outcome. He emphasised that this principle motivates to contribute to the betterment of society and the nation while leading a purposeful life.
He also highlighted that the Gita is not just a religious text but a source of inspiration in every sphere of life. It shows the way to truth, dharma, and action. Just as Lord Krishna gave the teachings of the Gita to Arjuna on the battlefield to remove his doubts, the Gita continues to inspire people to move forward with courage, even in the most challenging situations.
The Governor congratulated the Haryana Government and the organisers for successfully hosting the Gita Mahotsav and called for a stronger global presentation of India’s rich cultural heritage.
