HARIDWAR, 26 Aug: Amidst stiff competitive bidding, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has successfully secured two more orders for emission control equipment for thermal power plants. Valued at around Rs 2,500 Crore, the orders have been placed on BHEL by NTPC Ltd. The orders involve supply and installation of Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) systems for 13 coal-based units at 2,600 MW Korba STPS Stage I, II & III in Chhattisgarh and 2,100 MW Ramagundam STPS Stage I & II in Telangana. BHEL’s scope of work includes design, engineering, civil works, supply, erection and commissioning of wet FGD system along with auxiliaries including limestone and gypsum handling system and wet stack on turnkey basis. BHEL has been a major player in this area for over a decade and was one of the earliest entrants in the Indian market for emission control equipment. BHEL is dedicated towards providing contemporary solutions for clean power generation from coal-based sets. BHEL offers advanced SOx control equipment and has ongoing technology collaborations with Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS), Japan, for FGD systems and with HLB Power, Republic of Korea, for Large size Gates and Dampers. BHEL is a market leader in the emission control equipment segment and has contracted FGD orders for 54 thermal units from various customers including FGD systems for 40 thermal units of NTPC and its JVs. In addition, the company possesses in-house capabilities to supply the technology for reducing NOx levels through suitable modifications in boilers. BHEL is also supplying state-of-the-art Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCRs) for higher reduction in NOx emission and has technology collaboration with NANO Co. Ltd., Republic of Korea, for SCR Catalysts in coal fired power plants. BHEL also has technology collaboration with Babcock Power Environmental Inc., USA (BPE) for SCR Systems for De-NOx application. BHEL’s plan to indigenously manufacture major equipment for emission control provides a twin boost to the Government’s plan of ‘Making in India’ and its National Determined Contributions (NDCs) for limiting the carbon footprint of the nation. BHEL has a vast experience of over five decades and has installed more than 1,85,000 MW utility sets in India and abroad. The company’s strong engineering credentials have enabled various utilities to entrust BHEL with providing emission control solutions for compliance with Government of India’s revised emission norms.
