Dehradun, 5 Dec: Holding Congress State President Karan Mahara responsible for the “attack on journalists” by Congressmen yesterday in Dehradun, the BJP has demanded his resignation on moral grounds.
State BJP President Mahendra Bhatt termed the incident as highly unfortunate and asserted that Congressmen, frustrated with their defeat in Kedarnath, are considering everyone as their opponents. He claimed that this incident has once again exposed the façade of ‘faith in the democratic values’ of Congress.
Bhatt described the incident, which occurred in Dehradun yesterday as an attack on the fourth pillar of democracy,  journalism. He said that when the entire incident occurred, Congress State President Karan Mahara was present and, instead of calming his workers, he was seen instigating them. This conduct by the State President of a national political party is extremely shameful. Therefore, he should immediately resign on moral grounds. Bhatt alleged that the State President of Congress instigated the attack on the fourth pillar, leading to the misbehaviour with journalists. This cannot be justified in any way in a democracy, he asserted.
Bhatt said that Congress members are completely demoralised after their defeat in Kedarnath. This frustration has led them to consider every person as their opponent, resulting in harassment of the fourth pillar of democracy. No one has the right to commit such acts. The attack on the fourth pillar is also very dangerous for democracy.
The Rajya Sabha MP targeted the Congress, stating that the public has recognised the politics of confusion, lies, and rumours being pursued by the Congress. This is why people have shown the Congress party, mirror on all the issues raised in their rally yesterday. However, Congress leaders are still not ready to face their mistakes and learn from them. Today, the public is boycotting their programmes and sidelining them in elections.
Bhatt claimed that very evidentlyt, a deep frustration is why the Congress leaders are expressing their anger in this manner. Previously, the Congress President used abusive language, like spitting, for the people of Uttarakhand, especially those of Garhwal, for not attending party programmes. Although he apologised later, it seems this behaviour has become the norm for Congress.
The BJP State President also sarcastically remarked that such an attack on democracy can be expected from a party whose leaders call a book with blank pages as the Constitution.
