Dehradun, 28 Jun: BJP’s state media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan today rubbished claims by the Opposition that BJP is protecting criminals said that the Dhami government has so far taken a tough stand against every criminal and has not given them protection but has put them behind bars. He termed the allegations of the Congress President on the recent incidents as baseless and absurd.

Chauhan asserted said that immediate action was taken in all such incidents and no one even if found linked with BJP or any other influential person was spared. He demanded that Congress should clarify whether any accused in any of the cases has got protection from the government. If so, it should name the accused who allegedly got protection. Chauhan said that those involved in the recent rape and murder case in Haridwar have been arrested. One of accused who was associated with BJP was expelled from the party as soon as the allegation was levelled against him.

The BJP leader added that the police have solved the crime in a short time by investigating the case fairly and transparently. Chauhan said that, in any case, no person associated with the party has received any protection nor any kind of encouragement by the party or the government. In all the cases that have come to light so far, fair investigation has been ensured and the accused have been brought to justice.

Chauhan said that the Congress leaders must introspect first before levelling ‘baseless’ allegations against the BJP Government. He claimed that, during the Congress rule in the state, the Congress leaders were uncontrolled and many responsible people were directly involved in every crime. Everyone is aware of the conduct of the Congress and it needs to look into its own affairs. The Dhami government is working with a zero tolerance policy in the state and there is fear among the criminals involved in land frauds, recruitment scams and other crimes. There is no difference between the words and actions of the BJP, Chauhan claimed.

He also termed the statement of Congress President Karan Mahara regarding the Emergency as unfortunate and said that those who imposed the Emergency by strangling the Constitution are ironically claiming that the Constitution is in danger in the country at present.  No matter how many arguments the Congress gives to justify the Emergency, the public has not forgotten that period of bitter memories. The mandate given by the people after the emergency was strongly against the emergency. Ironically, instead of apologising for that act of imposing the Emergency, the Congress is still justifying it.
