DEHRADUN, 13 May: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has welcomed the decision of nursing unemployed to call off their protest after talks with the government. At the same time the party has strongly criticised the Congress for what it termed as irresponsible and anarchic conduct during the agitation.
Speaking to the media at the party headquarters, senior MLA and BJP State Spokesperson Vinod Chamoli said that the conclusion of the protest following dialogue with the government is a positive step. He expressed confidence that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will soon resolve the issue in the interest of the youth. Chamoli also urged the protesting candidates to exercise patience, assuring them that both the BJP organisation and the Government are sensitive and serious about their concerns.
At the same time, Chamoli condemned the conduct of Congress leader Jyoti Rautela who allegedly poured petrol on herself to incite unemployed nursing candidates towards self-immolation. He described the act as suicidal and irresponsible, questioning whether such gestures are meant to send a message that people must burn themselves or commit suicide to get their demands fulfilled. He said it is deeply unfortunate that a national party aspiring to form the government would push the state towards anarchy through such actions.
Chamoli also appealed to Congress leader Ganesh Godiyal to intervene as party president and prevent the agitation from taking such a dangerous turn. Chamoli stressed that such politics is harmful for the state and sets a wrong precedent for the future. He suggested that the Congress leadership should be concerned for the safety of its own leaders and advised that if dialogue is necessary, the entire party should approach the CM or even the Health Minister, who has already shown a positive approach.
The BJP Spokesman reiterated that the BJP welcomes constructive dialogue and remains committed to finding a solution, but he also condemned Congress for adopting a reckless and inflammatory stance that could endanger lives and destabilise the State.
