Dehradun, 21 Dec: Chief Secretary Dr SS Sandhu held a detailed discussion with all the departments concerned to solve the traffic problem of Dehradun city at the Secretariat on Wednesday. The Chief Secretary instructed the officials to form a team and prepare a special plan for roads with traffic congestion.
The Chief Secretary instructed the District Magistrate, Dehradun, to prepare an area-wise specific plan by inspecting the sites with traffic problems. One member, each, from the District Administration, MDDA, Municipal Corporation, Traffic Police and Public Works Department and the construction department of that road must be involved so that whatever suggestions received are capable of being implemented. Decisions could also be taken on the spot.
The Chief Secretary also sought cooperation from all departments to implement the suggestions given by the RTO, Dehradun. He said that every possible effort should be made to implement good proposals, for which there would be no shortage of funds. The traffic plan should be prepared that the common person need have to walk more than 100 – 200 metres to go anywhere in Dehradun. People should be prepared to leave their personal vehicles at home and rely on public modes of transport. This would definitely reduce the pressure on the city traffic. He also pointed out the need to develop the traffic system by ensuring arrangement of one-way, diversion and parking, etc., according to the terrain.
Present on this occasion were Additional Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu, Secretary Dipendra Chaudhary and District Magistrate Sonika along with high officials of the departments concerned.
