Dehradun, 16 Jan: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Uttarakhand has applauded the state government’s decision to restrict the homestay scheme to permanent residents, aiming to boost sustainable tourism and empower local communities. The new “Uttarakhand Tourism, Travel Business, Homestay & Bed-and-Breakfast Registration Rules – 2026” ensures economic benefits stay within the state, preserving cultural integrity.

The CII Uttarakhand Tourism, Hospitality & Wellness Panel — comprising leading voices from the state’s tourism and hospitality sector — had earlier outlined several key recommendations aimed at enhancing the efficacy, inclusiveness, and sustainability of the homestay ecosystem. These recommendations focused on strengthening policy clarity, supporting local hosts, and ensuring sustainable growth in tourism offerings across the state.

Pranav Kukreti, Convenor of the CII Uttarakhand Tourism, Hospitality & Wellness Panel, welcomed the state government’s decision, stating it aligns with their recommendations. He believes this policy will protect Uttarakhand’s cultural and ecological heritage, promote local participation in tourism, and foster community-led growth.

The Panel has extended its heartfelt thanks to the Government of Uttarakhand and the Department of Tourism for their proactive engagement with industry stakeholders and for incorporating the industry’s suggestions into policy.

CII Uttarakhand stated it remains committed to working closely with the state government, tourism businesses, and local communities to unlock the full potential of Uttarakhand’s tourism offerings — from homestays and wellness destinations to adventure and cultural experiences.
