Dehradun, 5 Jun: Global Climate Society organised a special programme at Nehru Colony here today on the occasion of World Environment Day. Vice Chairperson of the Uttarakhand Culture, Literature and Art Council Madhu Bhatt whose post holds a rank equivalent to a minister of state was the chief guest on the occasion. The programme aimed to raise awareness about environmental protection in the rapidly changing global scenario and to remind people of their responsibilities towards nature.
To mark the occasion of World Environment Day, Madhu Bhatt, along with office-bearers of the society and local residents, carried out extensive plantation. Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Bhatt emphasised on the participation of the citizens to preserve the environment. She said that the citizens’ participation is vital to tackle global climate change. The speakers emphasised that World Environment Day is a moment to pledge that everyone should plant more trees in his or her life. They stressed that the responsibility of nurturing saplings into full-grown trees lies with us, and regular care is essential.
The speakers also highlighted the unpredictable changes in global climate and the growing challenge of maintaining the ecological balance. It was underlined that tackling this crisis requires active participation from every section of society. Without public involvement, safeguarding and sustaining the environment is not possible, and hence every citizen must come forward.
The event was successfully conducted with the efforts of Rajesh Kumar, Executive President of the Global Climate Committee, Treasurer Kamini Tripathi, Deputy Secretary Sandeep Kumar and Publicity Secretary Seema Yadav. Other key members including Vijay Yadav, Sachin Kumar, Yashraj, Manendra, Vijay Kumar Bhati, Shruti Sewal, Shikha and Manish Gupta, along with environmental volunteers, contributed actively. The participants also collectively resolved to remain engaged in future campaigns for environmental protection.
