Dehradun, 6 Feb: The Indian Army has been operating in inhospitable terrain in extreme inclement weather conditions to maintain constant vigil along the borders. Many of these forward posts are yet to be connected by road with work in progress. The logistics are provided through air resources of Army and Air Force for maintenance of the posts in such regions.

Surya Command has achieved yet another milestone by integrating civil aviation helicopters for air maintenance of far-flung forward posts in Himachal, Garhwal and Kumaon regions. Aviation contracts have been signed with Thumby Aviation Pvt Ltd. Operations commenced from 6 February.

Augmentation of aviation efforts will facilitate timely buildup of logistics stocks as well as forward delivery of construction material in far flung places thereby contributing significantly towards logistic efficiency and early construction of critical infrastructure.

The initiative will also go a long way in optimising integral resources thereby achieving enhanced mission and operational readiness.
