CM beefs up security at border areas

DEHRADUN, 10 May: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a review meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence, here on Saturday, assessing the state’s preparations and security arrangements in line with directives issued by the Centre.
The Chief Minister reiterated that while the current situation in Uttarakhand is normal, all departments and officials must remain prepared for any circumstances. He directed officials to conduct intensive checking in border areas and ensure the security of strategically important locations, including sensitive sites and key pilgrimage routes such as the Char Dham Yatra. Additionally, he instructed authorities to expedite verification drives, identify suspicious individuals, and take strict action against fake news and sensitive information spreading on social media.
He also directed the officials to organise mock drills across Uttarakhand to enhance preparedness. Dhami instructed officials to install sirens in every district for early warnings and asked the administration to engage with local residents in border areas to ensure strong communication. The Chief Minister reaffirmed that the entire state stands with the soldiers of the nation and emphasised that directives from the Centre must be followed with full compliance.
Dhami highlighted the importance of boosting the morale of armed forces through events such as interfaith gatherings and padyatras. He reiterated the state’s unwavering support for soldiers and their families, noting that nearly every family in Uttarakhand has a member serving in the forces. He emphasised that India’s strength lies in its unity and assured that the state is prepared to tackle any challenge.
Security measures on Char Dham Yatra routes are being intensified, with increased CCTV and drone surveillance, and authorities instructed to scale up CCTV numbers if required. The CM directed officials to ensure uninterrupted availability of food supplies, medical equipment, and medicines across the state. To maintain smooth operations during the ongoing Char Dham Yatra, Dhami ordered secretaries to conduct ground inspections along pilgrimage routes. He assured that the state has taken all necessary precautions for pilgrims’ safety. Additionally, helicopter services for the yatra continue without disruptions, with real-time monitoring in place. Officials have been instructed to complete all preparations ahead of the upcoming monsoon season.
Addressing corruption, Dhami reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance policy and urged officials to take strict action against complaints. He asserted that any corrupt officials causing trouble for the public would not be spared, and stringent measures would be taken against them as a priority.
Present at the meeting were Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, DGP Deepam Seth, Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu, Secretaries Meenakshi Sundaram, Shailesh Bagoli, Sachin Kurve, Ravinath Raman, Pankaj Pandey, ADG AP Anshuman, Nitesh Jha, and Director General of Information Banshidhar Tiwari, along with district magistrates and other officials connected virtually.
