Dehradun, 10 Sep: A delegation of senior Congress leaders led by state Congress President Karan Mahra, met the Governor of Uttarakhand, Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) at the Raj Bhavan here, today, and handed over several memorandums to him regarding various incidents that have taken place in the state.
The delegation brought to the notice of the Governor the incidents rape and murder of women during the past two and a half years of the BJP government’s rule and demanded action in this regard.
The delegation also demanded that permission be granted to prosecute Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi in a case of allegedly having assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The Congress leaders reminded the Governor that Special Judge (Vigilance) Manish Mishra has asked the government for an appropriate decision soon in this regard.
The delegation also brought to the notice of the Governor the arrest of Satish Nainwal, brother of Ranikhet MLA Pramod Nainwal, under the Arms Act. The Congress leaders claimed that it was a case of arms smuggling along the Indo-Nepal border and demanded that an NIA inquiry be ordered in the case.
The delegation also demanded a high-level investigation into the incident of beating and drowning of a person named Tasleem, a resident of Sohalpur, Haridwar district, by the police and sought action against the culprits.
The delegation was led by PCC Chief Karan Mahara and comprised senior party leaders including veteran Congress leader and former CM Harish Rawat, former PCC Chief Pritam Singh, Co-incharge Surendra Sharma, Deputy Leader of Congress Legislative Party, Bhuwan Kapdi, former Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal, former Ministers Tilak Raj Behad, Dr Harak Singh Rawat, Nav Prabhat, Hira Singh Bisht, MLAs Mamta Rakesh and Vikram Singh Negi, former MP Pradeep Tamta, former MLA Jot Singh Gunsola, Virendra Singh Rawat, State Vice President Mathura Dutt Joshi, Youth President Sumittar Bhullar, Women President Jyoti Rautela, NSUI President Vikas Negi and Seva Dal President Hema Purohit.
