Mussoorie, 26 Jun: In view of the monsoon season in Mussoorie, Congress leader Sushant Vohra distributed raincoats among the local rickshaw pullers and street vendors of Mussoorie as a social initiative. The programme was organised at the Congress Bhawan, here. Former MLA Jot Singh Gunsola, former Municipal Chairman Manmohan Singh Mall, and Mahila Congress President Jasbir Kaur gave raincoats to the rickshaw pullers and street vendors.
Sushant Vohra and Mussoorie Mahila Congress President Jasbir Kaur said that rickshaw pullers and street vendors are a part of the identity of Mussoorie. Thousands of tourists who come to Mussoorie first meet the rickshaw pullers and street vendors here. These people not only provide service but also project the image of Mussoorie. Therefore, it is the responsibility of society to respect and support them. They appealed to all the rickshaw pullers to keep their rickshaws clean and attractive so that tourism can be promoted. If the rickshaws are organized and beautiful, then tourists would also use them in greater numbers, which will also increase their income. Vohra demanded from the Mussoorie Municipality that rickshaw pullers and pavement traders be given permanent and organised places so that they can run their business in a convenient and respectable manner. He said that rickshaw pullers and pavement traders are the hardworking pillars of society. Their problems cannot be ignored. The Municipality should ensure proper arrangements and facilities like identity cards for them.
This initiative was appreciated by the local citizens and business organisations. The members of the rickshaw union expressed happiness at getting raincoats. Many people including Jagpal Gusai and Sanjay Tamta were present on this occasion.
