Dehradun, 9 May: In a show of solidarity with the Indian Army, the Uttarakhand Congress organised a massive Tiranga Yatra here today. The rally was led by State Party President Karan Mahara. The march, which commenced from the State Congress Headquarters, saw participation from senior leaders, MLAs, and party workers, who carried the national flag through key city routes, including Rajpur Road, Ghantaghar, Paltan Bazaar, Dispensary Road, and Darshan Lal Chowk, before culminating at the statue of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
During the event, Mahara reiterated the Congress Party’s unwavering support for the Union Government and the armed forces, stating that all political differences had been set aside in the interest of national security. He affirmed that the party was prepared to make any sacrifice for the country.
State Congress Co in-charge Surendra Sharma highlighted the Indian Army’s strategic response to the Pahalgam attack, noting that the forces had initially targeted terrorist hideouts while remaining within Indian airspace. However, Pakistan’s provocation was later met with a decisive counterstrike.
Former State Congress President Pritam Singh remarked that Pakistan had repeatedly paid a heavy price for challenging India, referencing historical conflicts. He asserted that the country must now face the consequences of its actions.
Former State Congress Chief Pritam Singh and the Senior Vice President SK Dhasmana assured that Congress workers were ready to support the government, army, and administration in any emergency, including contributing through blood donations and financial aid. Congress Mahanagar President Jaswinder Singh Gogi pledged to mobilise party workers for assistance to the district administration and civil defence officials if required.
The leaders garlanded the statue of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, reaffirming their commitment to national unity and integrity.
It was shared by the Congress leaders that similar Tiranga Yatras have been organised across India, with Congress leaders in various states expressing solidarity with the armed forces. The party’s national leadership, including Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, has publicly declared its full support for the government’s actions against terrorism.
The event witnessed participation from several senior Congress leaders, including Treasurer Ayendra Sharma, Women Congress President Jyoti Rautela, Seva Dal President Hema Purohit, and numerous party workers. The march served as a strong message of unity and patriotism during a time of heightened national security concerns.
