DEHRADUN, 28 Jun: Chief Secretary (CS) Anand Bardhan held a meeting with senior government officials and government lawyers in his office auditorium here on Saturday to discuss measures for strengthening coordination between departments, the government, and legal counsel, with the aim of ensuring more effective representation in ongoing court cases. Bardhan instructed that nodal officers be appointed within key departments to handle the court cases, as well as to ensure better coordination within the government and among government lawyers.
The CS reminded that this step would provide clarity regarding whom to approach for information or discussions related to specific cases, and emphasised the importance of these nodal officers remaining continuously updated on case developments.
He further called for the establishment of a system and a mechanism to facilitate regular dialogue between departments, the government, and the government lawyers, to ensure improved presentation of cases in court. Bardhan underscored the need to correctly name the relevant department as a party in legal proceedings, pointing out that incorrect party designation often results in unnecessary delays. He stressed the importance of robust advocacy for the swift resolution of significant and important government cases.
Additionally, Bardhan further suggested the development of an App or software to enable timely preparation and review of all cases, thereby allowing for easy sharing of case-related information. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu, Principal Secretary (Justice and Legal) Pradeep Pant, Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, Additional Director General (ADG) V Murugesan, ADG AP Anshuman, Secretaries Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Ranjit Sinha, and Yugal Kishore Pant, along with other government advocates.
